Royal Institute of Technology
The Royal Institute of Technology (Kungliga Tekniska Högskolan), KTH, is responsible for one-third of Sweden’s capacity for engineering studies and technical research at post-secondary level. KTH has over 12,000 undergraduate students, 1,600 active postgraduate students and a staff of 3,000 people, in several campus sites.
The research and teaching in Photonics is situated in Kista about 10km north of the center of the capital of Sweden, Stockholm. The campus occupies modern facilities for more than 4,000 full-time students. The campus is in the heart of Kista Science City - one of the most important ICT clusters in the world with many companies. The campus is close to shops, resturants and communication and convienently located between Arlanda Airport and Stockholm City.
The most important application of Photonics studied at KTH has been in high-capacity telecommunication, but the scope is widening to include sensing and imaging applications, e.g. within biophotonics. The research and education range from fundamental device technology to optical networking.
